Day 5: Drop in Elevation

Today we woke up in out grassy camp above 7000 feet up in the mountains. The last 8 or 9 miles are all downhill to Kernville.

Amazing views along the way of our descent. At some points we could see the valley and lake and town below. I thought, how will we ever get down there? It is so far away!

But only 2.5 hours later we rode in to town. The most lucky cloud cover kept our morning ride cool. Not only were the temps comfortable, but they saved us from drinking all our water and getting in to trouble.

No mechanical issues except one leaky tire that Adrian fixed. He built that bike and it was great to ride for me. He rode the other pulled the trailer (a
Wedding gift from Danny Harkins - many thanks!)

Once we got down, we immediately found a spot to clean off in the river. We were so dusty and bug bitten and sweaty. The cold river felt amazing and revitalizing.

We ate a huge breakfast at The Cracked Egg. Great service and delicious biscuits and gravy. Those wonderful clouds even rained on u while we sat outside under the shade.

We had to repack the truck before driving the Santa Barbara, but we made it fun by stopping by the river again for one last swim.

Now we go to Sea Level! It is 3.5 hours drive to the Weisman's house. It felt good the relax in a place that feels like home. Anne and DBD are so welcoming.

Adrian and Dave went to the fish market while I, for some unknown reason, decided to go to a Zumba class with Anne. I was so exhausted from the bike ride I can't believe I made it thorough whole class. But it was so awesome! It reminded me of my African dance class in Tucson.

Dinner of grilled yellow tail and Ben's marinated shrimp. Finally Adrian and I were so tired we had to just go to bed. A long but amazing day!
