Day 14: Garberville to Kings Range

After 3 days of camping we decided to stay in a hotel. Really this is because we both needed to shower. And so, the only place in the area with hotels is where we stayed, Garberville.

It was a hip little town with some really funky stores. The outdoor gear store was clearly owned by a hoarder. The entire store was one huge junk pile. But I did manage to find a mosquito net.

We left Garberville after a late breakfast and headed towards the coast. We drive through Humboldt Redwood Stte Park. Twisty tiny roads weaves between the huge redwoods for miles and miles.

The towns kept getting smaller and smaller the farther we drove towards the Lost Coast. Eventually we made it to Petrolia where we rented bear canisters and ate a picnic outside of the general store (the only store).

After consulting the maps, we drove down Lighthouse Road to try to find a camp site. What we found were spectacular views of the coast through the fog from windy grassy ridge lines.

From this point we hiked down to Punta Gorda and the old lighthouse that was used until the 1940's.
