Day 8: Independence Day in SLO

Started off the day with a casual breakfast talking Earth Science and academia for hours. Coffee and eggs until noon.

I got to have baby time with Grayson, and she is so sweet. 2 months. But then Robinson and Dick and Grayson had to head home to LA and we said goodbye.

Then Elena, Scott, Ade and I went hiking along the tide pools and inlets of the shore at Montana de Oro. We avoided the poison oak along the trail as we headed towards the bluffs.

The fog was dispersing so we had a nice warm walk along the shore. I saw a green and yellow snake. Ade jumped really high because we had been warned about rattlers.

We hike until we came to a chain link fence on the border of the nuclear power plant. It was such a scenic area and the plant we hidden from view. Strange that it was just out of site.

We exchanged wedding stories and talked geology with Elena and Scott. The rock was made if diatoms and they did a trick where it sticks to your tongue. Scott pointed out and anticline and a syncline in the layers of rock.

Lunch in Morro Bay at a taco place was a little taste of Tucson. Chile verde.

Back at home we made the apricot ice cream with their new ice cream maker. It was like an orange creamcicle with apricot flavor. Yum!

Then we headed to the SLO Farmers Market and met up with Jeff and Rene Wustman and their friends Jackie and Craig. How fun to see Jeff and Rene in 3 states in 3 months. May - CO.  June - AZ.  July - CA.

We bought veggies and fruit at the produce stands then we all ate sushi together at one of the few open restaurants downtown. We missed the fireworks, but no worries, it was a great day and we are so thankful for this opportunity to travel and spend more time in amazing places with people we love while eating and drinking delicious food. Yay!
